Mrs. Emma Mae Crowder Tanner, also known as " Shange" was born on June 8, 1933 in Anson County, North Carolina to the late Frank Smile Crowder and Lizzie Clark Crowder. She departed this life on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at her home.
Emma accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and joined Meltonville Baptist Church, Peachland, North Carolina and later joined Flint Ridge Baptist Church where she served faithful as an Usher for many years.
She was educated in Anson County School System and graduated from East Polkton High School in 1952.
She was united in marriage on October 9, 1955 to Robert Bobby Tanner, who preceded her in death on October 7, 1989. To this union eight children were born. Two children, Vickey and Barry preceded her in death, her two sisters: Glennie Hubbard and Minnie Thomas also preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, Three sons: Alvin Tanner (Karen) of Arlington, Texas. Michael Tanner (Rosa) of Marshville, North Carolina and Dwayne Tanner of the home. Three daughters: Karen Oglesby, Sherry Crowder (Joseph) of Monroe, North Carolina and Robin Tanner of the home. Two sisters-in-law. eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. Two very dear cousins-friends Edna Polk Adams and Arrie Biven and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family
