Lottie Massey Obituary

Lottie Lucille McCain Massey was the second of seven children born to the late Herbert Daniel and Martha Mills McCain on December 13, 1924 in Union County, North Carolina. She graduated from Western Union High School. Lottie continued her education by attending CPCC and earning an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Development. She then worked at Central United Methodist Church Daycare in Monroe, North Carolina caring for toddlers. She was truly loved and admired by children, their families  and staff. After working for many years there, she retired from this position.

Lottie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, South Carolina. She met and married Ervin L. Massey and joined Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church. Following the marriage they were blessed with three loving daughters.

She was a very active member at Ebenezer serving on several boards and auxiliaries (Trustee, Deaconess, Stewardess, Usher, Sunday School Superintendent,  Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Church Secretary/Treasurer, Quarterly Conference Secretary and Choir Member).

Lottie was also active in the Craig-McCain community. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club, a Leader for the 4-H Club, and Vice President of the Community Development Organization. She was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star, Dawn of Morning Chapter #309. She served as the Worthy Matron for many years.

In June 2014 she joined the Brookdale-Monroe Square Assisted Living Community where she resided until Thursday, May 9, 2019. After being admitted to Atrium Health, the Lord called her from earth to a well deserved reward on Monday, May 13, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin (after 32 years of marriage) and six siblings: Clorena, Daniel, Esterlean, James, Pearlean and Hattie.

Lottie leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Evelyn (Thomas) Jeffries of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Carolyn Massey-Greene of Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Mamie Massey and a special family friend Jerry Guthrie of Laurinburg, North Carolina; three grandsons: Jason (Cynthia) Jeffries of Conyers, Georgia, Erik (Sarina) Jeffries of Monroe, North Carolina and Greg-Massey Greene (Ashley) of Durham, North Carolina. There are four great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Nellie M. Harris of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Eartha B. McCain of Winston Salem, North Carolina. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
