Margaret Catherine Blakeney Threatt was born December 18, 1922 in Pageland, South Carolina. She departed her life on Monday, May 13, 2019 in Monroe, North Carolina. She was the second daughter of the late William (Bill) and Pratus Gregory Blakeney. She was preceded in death by her two sisters: Louise Virginia Blakeney Nichols and Minnie Parker Blakeney McMillan.
She graduated from the Coulter Memorial Academy and furthered her education at Fayetteville College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She had a brief career in education, bail bondwoman, and domestic engineer.
During her early years in Pageland, South Carolina, she was a member of the Second Unity Presbyterian Church and family church Oak Hill Baptist Church. After marriage to the late John Robert Threatt, relocating to Monroe, North Carolina, she moved her membership to Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church where she attended until her passing. She was a dedicated member. Her auxiliaries included Missionary, member of the choir, and program committee. She was instrumental in organizing the “12 Tribes” fundraiser. Her oratorical skills lead to the reading of obituaries for hundreds.
Catherine was a kind, loving, and giving person. She was always stylish with matching handbags, shoes, and hats. She stood tall with a proud confident walk. Known to many as “Cat, Catherine, Mrs. Cat, Aunt Cat, Grandma Cat.” Her greatest occupation was being a loving, devoted mother.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her four children: Phyllis T. Range (Frankie) of Charlotte, NC, Linda Ortygia, John Jeffery, and Wanda Catherine Threatt, all of Monroe, North Carolina; Five grandchildren: Randall, Jeremy, Jonica, Tiara, and Jonathan; Eight great-grandchildren: Christion, M’Kah, Isaiah, Michael, Natalie, Tecora, Tionna, and Nick, Jr.; Extended family members: Otis Cuthbertson, Winnie Bennett, Joanne Barber, Caroleen Turner, Mary Ashcraft, Seneca Walker and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
