Bradford Neal Blakeney, 60, of Monroe, NC, passed away, Sunday, July 21, 2019 at his home. Brad was born October 19, 1958 in Monroe, NC to Flossie Lowery Blakeney and Robert Blakeney. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1976 and was well known for his basketball skills. He was last employed by North Carolina Department of Transportation in Charlotte, NC. Brad loved spending time in nature. He collected rocks and stones and taught himself how to make arrowheads the authentic way, with deer antlers! He always had a pile of rocks nearby. His love of rocks and stones led him to start making “BiNiBi’s” jewelry – a line of earrings, bracelets and necklaces he sold and gave away. Brad also enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and cooking.
Brad is survived by his two children, Brandon O. Blakeney and Lauren A. Blakeney, both of Charlotte NC; three grandchildren, Codi A. Blakeney of Fort Mill, SC, Kennedy A. Blakeney of Charlotte, NC, Kingston O. Blakeney-Springs of Charlotte, NC, and one great grandson, Kayden A. Davis of Fort Mill, SC; two sisters: Carrie L. Walker, and Annie L. Blakeney, both of Monroe, NC; siblings from his biological father, brothers: Floyd Richardson Jr. of Columbia, MD, Ronnie Walker, Michael Richardson, and Martin Richardson of Monroe, NC; sisters: Mary Richardson of Monroe, NC, Tinora Richardson of Los Angeles, CA, Vanessa Richardson of Greensboro, NC, and Jacquelin Richardson of Waxhaw, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Flossie Lowery Blakeney and Robert Blakeney, his biological father, Floyd Richardson; sisters: Sally J. Byrd, Betty L. Wynn, Susie L. Heath, Arleavia Walker, and Selwyn Darlene Blakeney; brothers: John P. Blakeney, Hayward Blakeney, Grady Blakeney, and William Blakeney.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Central United Methodist Church at 801 Haynes St., Monroe, NC. Arrangements are under the direction of Blakely’s Funeral and Cremation Services, 714 East Franklin St., Monroe, NC.
