Carroll Thomas, 83, departed this life peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026 following a
courageous battle with his health.
He was born in Union County on February 27, 1942, the son of the late Rev. James A Thomas
Sr and the late Mary Sturdivant Thomas, he was the seventh child of thirteen.
Carroll attended East Union School and then began working to help his mother after his father
passed on. At an early age Carroll accepted the Lord as his Savior and lived his life rooted in
strong Christian values and was a faithful member of Crossroads AME Zion. He was a humble,
soft-spoken man with a great sense of humor with an infectious smile and laughter. His quiet
strength, gentle spirit and unwavering faith touched all who knew him.
He was a respected member of the Marshville Community, known for his kindness, integrity and
servant’s heart. He found joy in playing the guitar and keyboard. In his early years he played the
bass guitar for the gospel group The Original Harmoneers from Marshville, NC. He also served
as a Mason for many years with the Marshville Lodge # 270 in Marshville, NC
