Mr. Charles Roger Richardson son of the late Lester and Bertha Alsobrooks Richardson was born November 30, 1949 in Union County, North Carolina. And departed this life on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Novant Presbyterian Health in Matthews, North Carolina.
Roger as he was known to family and friends attended Western Union School and graduated from Parkwood High School in 1967. He was among the first five African American students to graduated from Parkwood High School. Roger graduated with honors from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University with an Engineering Physics degree. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. Later in life he attended Howard University Divinity School master's program.
Roger grew up in the Little Zion A.M.E. Zion Church and accepted Christ. He was recently baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Roger was employed by several companies including Xerox in Buffalo, NY and Westinghouse, NASA in Washington, DC. After returning to Union County he worked in the school system and as a private math tutor. He became a Certified Nursing Assistant and provided homecare for his older brother for several years. Roger had an engaging personality and was active in several community organizations.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents,, Lester and Bertha Richardson, brothers: Wade, Hinton, and Osborne Richardson, sister Maxine McNeil, sister-in-law: Shirley Richardson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter: Aundria Victoria Gibson of Columbia, South Carolina. Brothers: Lester Richardson of Washington, DC, Napoleon Richardson (Lilly) of Durham, NC. George Richardson (Bertha) of Chicago, Ill and Lorenzo Richardson (Diane) of Mineral Springs, NC. Sister: Dr. B. Parthenia Richardson of Charlotte, NC, one granddaughter: Jasmine Tamya Gibson of Columbia, SC. Sister-in-laws: Margaret Richardson of Washington, DC and Maxine Richardson of Suitland, MD. and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends
