Essie Mae Horton

Essie Horton was born on December 10, 1944, in Monroe, North Carolina, to Evelyn (Rushing) Lee and John Henry Lee. On Tuesday March 31, 2026, after eighty-one blessed years, Essie was called home and peacefully entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Horton Jr.; her mother, Evelyn Rushing Lee; her father, John Henry Lee; her sister, Marilyn Lee; and her brother, Issac Lee.

Essie leaves to cherish her memory her son, Irus Horton (Sharon) of Monroe, North Carolina; her nephew/son, Harlis Meaders (Judith) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her son, Marlon Byrum of Monroe, North Carolina; and her grandchildren, Anthony Horton of Monroe, North Carolina, Tameka Byrum of Monroe, North Carolina, and Chris Byrum of Monroe, North Carolina.
