Mrs. Evalene Bailey Hood was born on August 28, 1936 to the late Rev. Walter G. Bailey and Mary Selena Mills Bailey, in Waxhaw, North Carolina. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Novant Health Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina at the age of 85 years old.
Eva is preceded in death by her husband: (the late) John David Hood and her 6 siblings: James Bailey, David Bailey, Rev. Henry Bailey, George Bailey, Thelma Moser, and Margaret Funderberk.
Eva attended and graduated from Western Union High School in 1954. She went on to medical school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, where she served for 29 years. She was a bus driver for Waxhaw Elementary and a delivery driver for a snack company. She was also a long time employee of Sam’s Club in Matthews, North Carolina.
Eva aka Aunt Nee as she was affectionately known, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Piney Grove Baptist West. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Waxhaw, North Carolina and New Unity AME Zion, which is the Mills family church. First Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw is where she was a faithful member and served on several auxiliaries. She was an honorary member of Will of God Outreach Ministries in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eva was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars Waxhaw Chapter.
Eva leaves to cherish fond memories, one daughter: Margaretta McKinney (David); one son: Pastor Wilbur Hood (Glory) all of Charlotte, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren: Marquita Hood, Jaelynn McKinney, Minister Octavia McFadden (Charles), Jamario Cunningham, Crystal Cunningham, Johnathan Hood, Gwendolyn Mungo, Hayward Mungo and the late Gwen Mungo, all of Charlotte, North Carolina. A host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Several special nieces: Annie Wheeler, Shirley Holmes and Constance Nash; a Goddaughter: Sandra Sturdivant and close family friend: Ms. Pat McCuller.
Eva never met a stranger. She had an aura about her that was infectious along with her personality.
