Gerald Mackey Obituary

On May 26, 2019, Gerald DeWayne Mackey, Sr. was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. Gerald was born on June 23, 1968 to the late Reverend Robert Mackey, Sr. and Margie Chambers Mackey.

Gerald accepted Christ at an early age and recently rededicated his life to the Lord. Gerald attended Parkwood High School and graduated from Ashbrook High School in 1987. Regardless of his troubled medical history, Gerald never let that stop him from living a full life. He had a passion for music. He could play any instrument he put his hands on; from the trumpet, drums, to his beloved keyboard. He would stay up all night after a long day of work listening to and playing music. Because of his love for the Lord and music, Gerald shared his gift of music in various churches. Gerald was an active member of Flint Ridge Baptist Church where he served as the Minister of Music. He was an entrepreneur, barber, and artist. Other than music, Gerald enjoyed riding his motorcycle, sports, and spending time with his family, which almost always involved eating.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mackey and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Chambers; father: Reverend Robert Mackey Sr.; sister: Pamela D. Mackey; nephew: General Lee McKinney, IV.

He is survived by his wife: Brittany Walker-Mackey; mother: Margie Mackey of Monroe, North Carolina; daughters: Gzamia Davis (Joshua) of Gastonia, North Carolina; Reshea Mackey of North Hollywood, California; Makinna Mackey of Gastonia, North Carolina; Nikiya Mackey of Monroe, North Carolina; bonus daughter: Airman First Class Christen Phillips of the United States Air Force; sons: Staff Sergeant Gerald Mackey, Jr. of United States Air Force; Devin Rice of Gaffney, South Carolina; Reagzon Mackey of Gastonia, North Carolina; Kyziah Mackey of Monroe, North Carolina; siblings: Robin McKinney of Charlotte, North Carolina; Robert Mackey, Jr. (LaSonya) of Charlotte, North Carolina; Retired Master Sergeant Kelvin Mackey (Veda) of Tucson, Arizona and Minister Sabrina Mackey of Charlotte, North Carolina; special cousin: James Kilgo of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
