Mr. Harold Lewis Rushing, Sr., son of the late Henry Sylvester and Bessie Blakeney Rushing, was born June 3, 1943 in Union County, North Carolina. He departed this life for Heaven Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Hopkins Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Brooklyn, New York. Harold was preceded in death by his father, mother and sisters: Lonnie Mae Rushing, Willie R. Simon, Henrietta L. Redfearn and Wanda J. Hatchell.
Harold received salvation and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior during a revival at the First Church of God, Marshville, North Carolina. Following his relocation to New York, he attended the Church of God in Freeport, New York and Jamaica, New York. Upon relocation to Georgia, he was affiliated with a church there.
Harold received his early education at East Union School, Marshville, North Carolina, graduating in 1961. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from which he received an honorable discharge. Employed as a truck driver, Harold traveled extensively and finally settled in the construction industry where he established himself as the owner of HLR Construction Company.
Harold married Susan Jane Hunter and two children were born to this union: Tiffany and Harold, Jr.
He leaves to cherish memories: His daughter: Tiffany Rushing McBean (Larry) of Brooklyn, New York; son: Harold L. Rushing, Jr. (Marinda) of Snellville, Georgia; grandchildren: Lorenzo McBean. Jr., Tiffany McBean, Siyahr M. Rushing, Quentan L. Rushing, Cameron X. Rushing, Tianne S. Hall, Maurice E. Zanders, Jordon A. Zanders, Sydney E. Zanders; Great-grandson: Carson McBean; brother: Henry Rushing, Jr., of Queens, NY; four sisters: Sophie Anthony of Charlotte, North Carolina, Geraldine (Mark) Barrino of Marshville, North Carolina, Bonnie Rushing of Charlotte, North Carolina and Omega Autry(Loyce) of Charlotte, North Carolina; aunt: Sarah Blakeney of Boston, Massachusetts; brother-in-law, James Hatchell of Willingboro, New Jersey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
