James Ernest McClendon Obituary

With heartfelt sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of James E. “Red” McClendon on May 31, 2025, at the age of 68. James, lovingly known as “Red” to his family and friends, departed this life surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering morals. He was born to the late Washington McClendon and Annie Mae (Rogers) McClendon and was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth McClendon. James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rosa Lee (Garmon) McClendon, whose love and partnership were the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised four children—one daughter and three sons—who will forever carry his memory in their hearts: Rosa Anderson (Vincent) of Monroe, NC; James McClendon (Jack) of Charlotte, NC; Jason McClendon of Mint Hill, NC; and William McClendon (Tiffany) of the home.

He is also survived by one sister, Claudary Rogers of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, John S. Rogers of Wingate, NC, and Boyce McClendon of Monroe, NC; one brother-in-law, William Garmon of NC; and two sisters-in-law, Delois Sturdivant of NC and Paulette (Joe) Blakeney of NC. James was a proud grandfather of seven grandchildren and one great-grandson and was cherished by many nieces and nephews. James spent the majority of his working years as a truck driver for Pilgrim’s Pride/JBS. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, hunting, and the excitement of casino trips. He possessed a quiet strength and a good-humored spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His laughter, wisdom, and steadfast love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A life well loved, a man well lived—may he rest in peace.
