Larry McCray, the son of the late Ms. Myrtle McCray and Mr. John David Hood, was born on April 21, 1958, in Union County, NC. He departed his earthly life on June 17, 2021, at Atrium Health – Union. Larry was proceeded in death by his mother, Myrtle McCray; father, John D. Hood; sisters, Dora Faye McCray; and brother. Ronnie Lynn McCray. Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Larry was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw, NC. He graduated in 1976 from Parkwood High School. Larry was also a United States Army veteran, where he served for 5 years. Anyone who knew Larry knew he could do just about anything. He could fix anything associated with a house,
pluming, electricity, sheet rock, roofing, flooring, and even automobile issues. If you wanted to learn how to do anything he did, he would not mind showing you how to do something if you had the desire to learn it. He loved his family with all his heart and did not mind letting you know. He always told his family, “If you treat people right God will bless you and people will treat you right.”
Larry Leaves to cherish is memories, 3 stepchildren: Gwendolyn Mungo (Lewis) of Charlotte, NC, Gwen Mungo (Tim) of Monroe, NC, Haywood Mungo of Charlotte, NC; two brothers: Rodger McCray of Waxhaw, NC, and Wilbur (Glory) of Charlotte, NC, One sister, Margaretta McKinney (David) of Charlotte, NC. Three special nephews: Demontris McCray (Melissa) of Waxhaw, NC and Antonio McCray of Monroe, NC, Demontris McCray Jr. and Four special nieces: Marquita Hood, Jaelyn Hood, Ziamirea and DaShane McCray; two special grandsons: Demarcus Mungo and Robert Mungo. Five grandchildren: Shaiesha, Kyron, Taliyah, Kia Mosley, and Ja’Qunan; and Ten great-grandchildren. One special aunt, Joann McCray of Lancaster SC. Special “mother”, Ms. Eva Hood. Aunt Maggie Twitty. Uncle, Leroy, and Everett Hood (Margaret). Special cousins, Ricky, and Tony Hood. Larry had a very special lady in his life, Theresa Mays. Larry was loved by all who ever got the chance to know him. He never met a stranger.
