Mary R. McAfee began her heavenly journey on April 19, 2025.
Born on June 15, 1932, in Oxford, NC, she was a proud Johnson C. Smith University alumni ('56) and earned her Masters' from Winthrop University. A devoted member of Blacks’ Memorial Presbyterian Church, and she retired from Forest Hills High School. She is survived by her 4 children Helen of Monroe, Cynthia (Miles) of Charlotte, James Jr.(Joan) of Monroe, Anita of Charlotte, her eldest and only surviving brother Joseph Jr.(Rose) of Arlington, Va. She also leaves her brother in law Kenyon (Cheryl) McAfee of District Heights, MD, 2 sister in laws Valerie (Greg) Hardy of Clinton, MD and Hattie Royster of Rahway, NJ. She has 13 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive visitors daily from 12PM to 7PM at 810 Parker St. Monroe, NC.
