Mr. Robert Lee Hailey, son of the late Herman "Pete" and Mabel Blakeney Hailey was born December 24, 1947 in Union County, North Carolina. And departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Atrium Health Care-Main, Charlotte, North Carolina.
He was preceded in transition by a brother (Herman Hailey, Jr.) and a sister (Janet Hailey) both as infants.
Robert attended East Union High School where he graduated in 1966. Upon graduation he matriculated to Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina until he entered the United States Army in 1968. Robert served his country honorably in the Vietnam War. The comradery with fellow military veterans endured with him throughout his life.
Robert joined Flag Branch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age where he attended until his departure. He enjoyed being a part of the community of the family church.
Robert leaves to cherish fond memories: a sister: Olinda Hailey Simpson of Monroe, NC; a brother: Michael Hailey (Jasmine) of Newark, New Jersey. A daughter: Dawn Hailey of South Hill, Va. two sons: Tony Hailey of Houston, Tx. and Alex Clyburn of Monroe, NC. five grandchildren: Kenya Hailey, Vashawn Hailey, Damami Hailey and Sky Hailey and Stormie Hailey of South Hill, Va. Three aunts: Mary White of Stanly, NC, Louise Barnett and Barbara Robinson of Monroe, NC. One uncle: Bill Hailey of Long Beach, CA. Nieces: Fayon Witche Drakford, Michelle Simpson Lair, Monica Simpson, and Melanie Simpson Eddie. Nephews: Daniel Warren and Ronald Simpson. Great-nieces: Makayla Campbell, Zolanni Warren and Zya Staton; great-nephews: R. Andrew Lair, G. Luke Lair, DeBrian Coffee, Damonta Eddie and a host of cousins , family and friends.
