Verla (Tillman) Ferguson

Verla Ferguson was born on Tuesday, June 10, 1941 and departed this life on September 29, 2021 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Samuel Tillman and Alice Washington who both preceded her in death. Verla was married to James Ferguson on May 15, 1963 and they resided in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 1954, Verla graduated from Western Union High School in Waxhaw, NC.  She also attended college for two years to become a Licensed Practical
Nurse (LPN). She worked as an LPN for over 30 years and retired from CMC Main in 2003.

Verla was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and also a true friend. She loved her family and often gathered for food and fellowship with them! She possessed a sweet, gentle and nurturing spirit that was known and felt by many. She loved to garden and took pride in the many flowers she
planted and maintained in her yard each year.  Verla was a faithful member of Greater Blessed Hope Baptist Church for 33 years where she was also a Deaconess. She loved her church family and supported many ministries through the years. She served on the Usher
Board and was also a Mother of the Church.
Verla Ferguson leaves behind her husband, James Ferguson, two sons: Juel Tillman (Ruby) of Virginia Bach, VA and James Salis of Charlotte, NC; two daughters: Sakira Curbeam (Steve) of Charlotte, NC and Nakira Carter (Kenneth) of Durham, NC; two sisters: Allene Simms of Waxhaw, NC and
Annie Cauthen of Waxhaw, NC; two sister-in-laws: Loretta Steveson of Largo, MD and Andrea Grier of Charlotte, NC; one aunt: Ruth Kelly of Charlotte, NC; Twelve Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and God children.
She is preceded in death by her brother Olie Tillman and wife Pearl Tillman.
