Walter Horne Obituary

Walter (Jimmy) Alexander Horne Jr., 80, of Polkton passed away peacefully on November 3, 2020. Born May 21, 1940, in Deep Creek, NC, he was the son of the late Walter A. Horne Sr. and Annie Mae (Huntley) Horne.

Walter graduated from West Deep Creek High School in 1958. He was married to Pauline Melton Horne in 1963. Walter worked at the Charlotte Observer and later moved on to Alvac in Monroe. He began working in the lumber industry with his father in law. He survived a logging accident in 1981 but was paralzyed from the waist down. Despite his physical challenges, Walter dedicated his life to working and providing for his family. He worked as a supervisor at Union Diversified Inc. for 28 years and received numerous awards and recognition for his outstanding service.

With a contagious smile and endless jokes, Walter kept his family and friends   laughing. He loved being outdoors, playing volleyball, and vacationing with his family for many years. His zeal for life, positive attitude, and perseverance were an inspiration to all.

Walter is survived by his wife Pauline of 57 years; daughters Mrs. Janice Akins of Unionville, NC, Mrs. Wanda (Hugh) Crawford of Lancaster, SC, Mrs. Alissa (Warren) Stone  of Ashburn, VA and Mrs. Rose (Jerome) Merriweather of Concord, NC; brother Mr. Jasper (Sherril) Earnshaw Horne of Browns Summit, NC; sister Mrs. Texie Bullard of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Walter was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Special thanks to the staff of Community Home Care & Hospice (Richmond Co.) for the excellent service provided.

God Saw You God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
